Manchester United relied on Juan Mata to get out of the 3rd round of the FA Cup. After the 0-0 first leg draw on January 4, the Mancunians received Wolverhampton for the “replay” this Wednesday. A team they had not beaten since their return to the Premier League in the summer of 2018 (3 draws, 2 defeats).
The Wolves cracked in the 67th minute when Juan Mata, pitched on the edge of offside by Anthony Martial, adjusted John Ruddy by skillfully poking his ball to score his second goal of the season only. The English goalkeeper had however saved his team several times (28th, 34th, 42nd, 50th) while his teammates had been unhappy in the first period by touching the post after a header from Saiss (30th) and having been refused a goal by Pedro Neto after a hand fault by Raul Jimenez (10th).
With this victory, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men will face the winner of the duel between Watford and Tranmere (3-3 outward) in the round of 16.
