Masterclass on “VATS lobectomy” for the benefit of 12 specialists in thoracic surgery


Some 12 thoracic surgery specialists from different hospitals in the Kingdom benefited on January 16 and 17 in Marrakech, from a Masterclass dedicated to “VATS lobectomy” (lobectomy by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery).
Organized by the thoracic surgery department of Arrazi hospital under the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center (CHU) in Marrakech and the Moroccan Society of Thoracic Surgery, this workshop was intended for experienced thoracic surgeons working in different hospitals as well as professors in thoracic surgery practicing at the level of the different faculties of medicine and the teaching hospitals of Morocco.
The first workshop of its kind in Morocco, this Masterclass included a part devoted to theoretical courses, followed by a practical part at the level of the Simulation Center under the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Marrakech on thoracic surgery.
In a statement to the MAP, the coordinator of this workshop, Pr. Yassine Msougar, head of thoracic surgery department at the Arrazi hospital under the Mohammed VI CHU in Marrakech, said that thoracic surgery specialists benefited from advanced training in a surgical technique widely practiced worldwide today.
This technique, he explained, involves resection of the lungs without opening the rib cage using endoscopy or video-assisted. Pr. Msougar, at the same time, extolled the advantages of this medical technique in particular the reduction of hospital stays which pass from approximately 10 days to 3 to 4 days, the reduction of postoperative pain because this technique makes it possible to use orifices smaller than 1 cm as well as very rapid recovery after the operating procedure.
