Victory of the pair Sander Gille / Joran Vliegen in the 1st round in Melbourne


The best Belgian men’s pair of tennis players Sander Gille (ATP 44) and Joran Vliegen (ATP 37) played their first match at the Australian Open on Wednesday in Melbourne. They beat the Spanish Pablo Andujar and Feliciano Lopez (ATP 51) on the hard surface of Melbourne Park in 2 sets (6-4; 6-1)

In the 2nd round, Gille / Vliegen could be opposed to the seeded N.1 the French Pierre-Hugues Herbert (ATP 6) and Nicolas Mahut (ATP 3) who faced in the 1st round the duo composed of the Italian Simone Bolelli ( ATP 86) and Frenchman Benoît Paire (ATP 100).

Gille / Vliegen had played their first two Grand Slam tournaments in 2019. They were beaten in the 2nd round at Wimbledon and in the 1st round of the US Open.

Vliegen, associated with the Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin, had reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros a few weeks earlier.
