Vaud: A prisoner found dead in his cell in Orbe – Vaud & Regions

A 28-year-old detainee was found dead in his cell at Orbe prison on Saturday, reports Vaud police.

Around 7:15 a.m., personnel from the Orbital Plains (EPO) discovered the inanimate body of an inmate, alone in his cell.

Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services, the doctor on call called on the spot could only note the death.

The victim, a 28-year-old man who suffered from psychological disorders, was detained as part of an institutional therapeutic measure. He was known in particular for an offense under the federal narcotics law.

Investigations are being carried out by cantonal police investigators under the authority of the duty prosecutor in order to clarify the circumstances of the death.

According to the initial findings, the intervention of a third party is excluded and the first elements of the investigation allow the hypothesis of suicide to be accepted.

This event required the intervention of prison officers, a gendarmerie patrol, investigators from the security police, the SMUR and the doctor on duty.
