The final of the King’s Cup on April 18 in Seville will be 100% Basque and will pit Athletic Bilbao against Real Sociedad, who respectively fall from Granada and Mirandes.
Athletic Bilbao qualified for the King’s Cup final despite their 2-1 defeat at Granada on Thursday evening in the return semifinal. The current 10th in Liga will find Real Sociedad, for a 100% Basque finish next April 18 in Seville.
The big fallers
Granada, however, led 2-0 in the 76th minute after goals from Carlos Fernandez (48th) and German Sanchez (76th). But former PSG player Yuri Berchiche scored the qualification goal in the 81st minute. Bilbao, who fell to Barca in the quarterfinals, won the first leg 1-0 and therefore held their ticket.
In the other semifinal on Wednesday, Real Sociedad, who eliminated Real Madrid in the previous round, beat the second division club Mirandes 1-0, having already won 2-1 in the first leg.
