Manchester United pocketed the last ticket to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on Thursday by winning 3-0 on the field of the Derby County team. A match marked by the reunion between the Mancunian club and Wayne Rooney.
The table of quarter-finals is complete. Manchester United were the last club to qualify, beating Derby County on Thursday 3-0. The club coached by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will meet on March 21 against Norwich City, surprise winner on penalty shootout against Tottenham Wednesday evening (1-1 then 3-2).
Manchester United made the difference in the first period, with goals from Luke Shaw (33rd) and Odion Ighalo (41st). The Nigerian striker raised the score in the second period, bringing his total goals to three since his arrival in England at the very end of the winter transfer window.
Rooney almost scored
For his reunion with the club where he played from 2004 to 2017, Wayne Rooney, now 34 years old and a Derby player, placed a superb free kick in the first half, difficult to stop by Sergio Romero. But his team, only 13th in the second division, did not match the Red Devils.
Derby was the last remaining Championship team. On March 21, the planned posters will only oppose Premier League teams: Sheffield United-Arsenal, Newcastle-Manchester City and Leicester-Chelsea.
