The federal and Brussels ministers of health, Maggie De Block and Alain Maron, announced on Wednesday the first death linked to the coronavirus in Belgium. He is a 90-year-old patient who was cared for by the network of Brussels clinics in Iris-Sud, it said in a joint press release.

“Despite the quality of care provided by the medical teams, a 90-year-old patient died,” said De Block.

“Today, our thoughts are with the family, but also with the medical staff who have worked tirelessly, professionally and coolly since the arrival of the coronavirus,” said Mr. Maron.

A press point is organized by the FPS Public Health at 11 a.m. Scientific experts, the medical director and chief physician of the Iris Sud Clinics, who took charge of the patient, will be present.
