Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from reigning Premier League champion Manchester City has named what are currently the three best players in the world for him. He also commented on a possible change of national team and city teammate Leroy Sane in the summer.
“Lionel Messi, Kevin De Bruyne and Kylian Mbappe”, revealed the former Bundesliga professional in a Q&A he started Twitter. The 29-year-old Gundogan moved from Borussia Dortmund to the English top club in summer 2016, where Kevin De Bruyne is also under contract. Together, the two midfield strategists won two league titles with the Skyblues (2018, 2019).
Regarding the Sane personnel at Cityzens, Gundogan winked that he “naturally” tried to convince the 24-year-old to stay with Manchester for the summer. “I would be very happy if he stayed,” said Gundogan: “We’ll see what happens.”
Sane has been intensely associated with a move to Bayern Munich since last summer, which should have failed last year only because of the international player’s serious knee injury. Still, a commitment from Sanes to the German record champions should be a priority.
Gundogan also described the Premier League as “best league in the world” despite the defeats by Tottenham Hotpsur and Chelsea in the Champions League against RB Leipzig and Bayern. At the end of Twitter Q&A, Gundogan made reference to the global corona crisis and thanked everyone who is currently active in the medical field. “These are tough times for all of us. A positive attitude makes us stronger and will survive.”
