A certificate for each trip, under penalty of a fine … the French are supposed to stay at home from noon to try to check the progression of the coronavirus epidemic. Some were traveling in large numbers this morning to leave the heavily populated places, including Paris.

In Paris, the streets are deserted. In Ile-de-France, there were only 5 km of traffic jams, against around 300 km on average in the early morning. But while the frequency of trains will be further reduced, many people continue to leave the big cities to go to the countryside. In Paris, Montparnasse train station is under attack. And on the A13 motorway, which leaves Paris for Rouen, Le Havre and Caen, traffic in this direction was much higher than that entering the capital.

As of this noon, all people traveling must be able to justify their trip, at the risk of being fined up to 135 euros. Tolerated trips are those between home and work when absolutely necessary, to go shopping, for health reasons, or for compelling family reasons or the assistance of vulnerable people.

The collective confinement measure will last at least two weeks and “if in 15 days we see that the situation has calmed down enough and that we can lift all or part of the containment measures, we will do it”, affirmed on France Inter the Minister of Health Olivier Veran.
