Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (CDU) has pledged to help the Bundeswehr in the fight against the new corona virus. Reservists are supposed to help in military hospitals and the procurement office is helping the Ministry of Health.

Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (CDU) has pledged to help the Bundeswehr in the fight against the new corona virus. “We plan at all levels in such a way that we can cover all critical areas with certainty – including what is expected of administrative assistance,” said Kramp-Karrenbauer of “Welt am Sonntag”. The Bundeswehr had just called on its reservists to report in to help in the Bundeswehr hospitals.

The Bundeswehr is already providing administrative assistance for the Federal Ministry of Health with its procurement office, said Kramp-Karrenbauer. The Bundeswehr negotiates, concludes contracts and procures breathing masks, protective suits and medication. “We provide storage capacities, medical personnel to strengthen civilian forces and laboratory capacities,” reported the CDU boss.

The Bundeswehr is also affected by the new type of corona virus. According to Kramp-Karrenbauer, 120 suspected cases and 18 confirmed coronavirus cases were recorded by Friday evening. “Every reported case is immediately isolated, if possible also all contact persons,” assured Kramp-Karrenbauer.
