“Kubica an absolute win for the DTM”

Timo Glock is one of the DTM’s flagships and drives his eighth season

Ex-Formula 1 driver Timo Glock will go into his eighth DTM year with BMW in 2020. After the Odenwald improved in the overall ranking from year to year and was strong fifth in 2018, it mutated to bad luck of the season last year and was only twelfth.

The 37-year-old reveals what was the most significant moment of this horror year for him, what he believes in his old Formula 1 rival Robert Kubica in the DTM, who he would like to see in the DTM car and which favorites he will make for the coming season in the interview, courtesy of colleagues from ‘ran.de‘publish.

Question: “Timo, the DTM season is coming. In addition to you, Robert Kubica, another former Formula 1 driver, is now represented in the DTM. How do you rate him?”

Timo Glock: “An absolute win for the DTM. He gave a really good picture during the test drives and was very fast. I’m very excited to see how he does in the first year, because the first year is always difficult.”

“Especially when a driver like him is at the start with a new private team. But I’m happy that he is there – and for the first duel on the racetrack.”

Question: “How is your relationship to each other? As an experienced DTM driver, give tips to a newcomer like Kubica, or do you only see him as a competitor?”

Glock: “We get on very well together privately and have also spoken to each other on the phone and talked to each other a number of times, and have also had meals together. There is an open exchange and I have no problem with that. If he has any questions, I can help him but come in with his experience alone as soon as he is driving a DTM car more often. ”

Question: “Kubica is here. If you could have another driver for the DTM, who would it be?”

Glock: “Nico Hulkenberg. I’d like to see him in a DTM car.”

Question: “Let’s get to your DTM situation. Last year you were unlucky to say the least, there were many failures to cope with and bitter situations to deal with. What is your personal goal for the new season?”

Glock: “I can’t remember the past season (laughs). Yes, I have set myself a goal. I want to finish in the top three in the drivers’ standings this year.”

Question: “Who is – apart from yourself – a favorite for the DTM title?”

Glock: “Everyone. Really all drivers who take part. Everyone has the same chance and belongs on the list of favorites. It depends on how the whole package will work. Audi was very, very strong last year.”

“And of course you have to pay attention to Rene Rast as defending champion or Marco Wittmann, Nico Muller or Mike Rockenfeller. Basically, I wouldn’t rule out anyone on this question.”

Question: Even if you want to forget last season – what was the worst moment, the worst experience, the stupidest experience? ”

Glock: “Boah, there were so many (laughs). I can’t and don’t want to remember the one moment. But of course it’s always bitter when your own brand colleague turns you around.”

“But the most curious moment was definitely in Hockenheim when the door suddenly slammed in the middle of the race. I also thought in line with the season: ‘Sure, how should it be different at the end?’.”

Question: “That is now ticked off. What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming DTM season?”

Glock: “I am most looking forward to the fact that I will not have the bad luck of last year. It was also a long winter break, I am just now happy that it finally starts again!”
