The Community of Madrid suspends the execution of the wake of the deceased in the region “regardless of the cause” of the death be the coronavirus, for a period of one month, without prejudice to the fact that the measure may be extended for a longer time. This is stated in an instruction from the General Directorate of Public Health, to which Europa Press has had access, given the “extraordinary increase” in the number of deaths in the Community of Madrid during the last days in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, which that motivates the adoption of complementary measures in matters of mortuary health.
In that order, it is specified that the dismissal of the deceased by family and friends must be carried out “at the final destination” of the body, whenever possible. Thus, the wake in the Community of Madrid remain suspended whatever the cause of death.
In turn, instructions are given regarding the preparation of the corpse for its transfer to the final destination. On the one hand, the procedure sets forth the use of a sealed sanitary bag authorized for this purpose (special coffin), which must be sprayed with disinfectant for hospital use or with a sodium hypochlorite solution containing 5,000 ppm (Parts per million) of active chlorine.
Another option is to use a double plastic shroud that guarantees the handling and transfer of the corpses in a “safe way” and that, likewise, should be sprayed with disinfectant for hospital use or with the sodium hypochlorite solution: “In both cases, once the body has been inserted into the coffin, it must be sprayed again according to the procedure indicated above “, details said order.
