While the Belgians will be subject to confinement from Wednesday noon until April 5, Minister of Public Health Maggie De Block has stressed the need for these measures, saying that the previous recommendations have not been sufficiently followed. “We know there will be more new cases, but it is the speed at which this number is increasing that is worrisome,” she said on the RTBF microphone.
“We can see that the number of patients in our hospitals is increasing. The measures (previous note) have not been respected enough. Which is a shame, because it carries the risk of having more positive patients every time, but also more crowds in hospitals, “said De Block.
The Minister of Health stressed the importance of respecting the new containment measure. “There are more stringent rules and you have to follow them. Not only for you, but also for your loved ones, ”she said as a message to the population.
“Social distancing measures are essential”
“Unfortunately people have continued to come together, yet social distancing measures are paramount, as are hygiene measures,” said De Block.
Belgians are asked to stay at home to avoid the spread of the coronavirus, the National Security Council decided on Tuesday. They are asked to limit travel to essentials (health, food, bank, pharmacy, post office, gas, help for people in need), stores will be closed except pharmacies, food and pet food stores as well as libraries. The cribs remain open. Meetings are prohibited.
