The management of the Open Vld has decided to postpone for two months the election for its president following the coronavirus epidemic, it was announced Thursday noon.
“It was a difficult decision, but maintaining the poll would have been too. Some of our members would no doubt have preferred another decision. We understand and respect it. But we nonetheless count on everyone’s understanding. Many members and candidates of our party are completely absorbed in the fight against the virus. All of our attention must now be focused on this, “said the party.
Thursday morning, the young Open Vld, among others, had disputed a possible postponement of the election.
The latter was initially scheduled for next Saturday. It was to determine who of Els Ampe, Egbert Lachaert, Stefaan Nuytten or Bart Tommelein will succeed Gwendolyn Rutten at the head of the Flemish liberals.
