Ski jumping: Stephan Leyhe falls hard

The season is probably over for team world champion Stephan Leyhe. The ski jumper fell during the qualification for the World Cup in Trondheim and had to be driven out of the stadium by snowmobile.

Stephan Leyhe is in the qualification for the Ski jumpingWorld Cup crashed in Trondheim. According to the German Ski Association (DSV), the 28-year-old is suspected of having torn a cruciate ligament. If this is confirmed, threatens Leyhe a month-long break.

The Willinger fell after a long jump to 141.5 meters and then held his left knee. Leyhe was taken out of the stadium on a stretcher by snowmobile. The qualification as part of the Raw Air Tour, in which Leyhe was in second place, was interrupted for several minutes after the fall.

Leyhe will fly back to Germany on Thursday, where his knee will be examined further. The German had also crashed at Raw Air almost exactly to the day a year ago, but got away in Oslo at the time without serious injury.

The qualification for the competition on Thursday (5 p.m., TV: ARD and Eurosport) was won by the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi, who is now 7.4 points behind the Polish Kamil Stoch in second place. The best German was world champion Markus Eisenbichler in fifth, who won the first jump of the raw air tour Had finished second.
