The Government announced this Thursday the implementation of a basic basket of 2,000 products to be sold in supermarkets in the coming days as part of the package of measures related to the advancement of the coronavirus.
The measure was confirmed by the Minister of Productive Development, Matias Kulfas, who announced that “the idea is to establish a maximum product” for each of the items for sale, whose price should roll back to March 6.
“We are publishing in the next few hours a list that will incorporate 50 categories of products that make up a basic basket. The idea is that a maximum price is established for each item. They are going to be 2,000 in total, ”explained Kulfas.
And he added: “Between March 6 and today there were no objective reasons for prices to have risen.”
In dialogue with radio El Destape, the official warned that AFIP inspectors are being incorporated to “strengthen the supervision” of compliance with the measure.
In addition, he revealed, they are receiving assistance from the municipalities “so that no one goes through alive and takes advantage of the anguish that the coronavirus is causing.”
“We have detected abuse regarding alcohol gel and chinstraps. We are going to penalize those who sell at a speculative price. There have already been closings, “he said.
Asked about the possibility of taking other measures, the minister said that the government analyzes everything “day by day.”
“If in two weeks it is observed that the virus has been able to be controlled, it may not be necessary to take such restrictive measures. If the level of contagion is high, there the damage to economic activity will be very great, “he clarified.
And closed: “Surely there will be many measures to improve and incorporate.”
