In the Lower Saxony district of Hildesheim, a man was shot in a police operation and died in the hospital. The cause of death is still unclear because the 26-year-old was hit in the lower body by an official’s bullets, the public prosecutor’s office in Hildesheim reported on Wednesday. The policeman fired two shots at the man’s legs after he attacked him and his colleague with a fork.
The incident was reported to have occurred on Tuesday evening during a family conflict operation. The parents of the 26-year-old had called the police, according to the prosecutor, because their son wanted to enter their front door. This had previously been noticed through crimes throughout the day.
Accordingly, the son attacked a crew of a patrol car with a fork, and he also injured the two police officers. A 58-year-old official then shot the attacker’s legs twice.
The latter came to a hospital, where he later died. The prosecutor ordered an autopsy to clarify the cause. The further investigation is being carried out by the police in Göttingen because it was not involved in the operation.
