One of the first Americans to receive his brand-new Porsche Taycan didn’t take long to test its limits. Barely received, the proud owner living in Maine on the east coast of the United States, has hired his new 100% electric sedan for an 18,000 km loop in North America.

What better way to test the network of American charging stations than to take a road trip with your brand new electric Porsche? Don Louv rose to the challenge by setting off for 46 days on the Canadian and American networks with his Taycan Turbo just out of the dealership. An adventure that will have allowed him to visit friends and his mother living 5000 km from his home, and to test his new car in a wide range of road conditions and temperatures.

The new 100% electric sedan from Porsche caused a sensation at its inception. A breathtaking line and super sporty performance, but a disappointing autonomy at first. The Turbo version is powered by an electric motor of 500 kW or 680 hp, enough to send the 0 to 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds. Its battery can collect high power charges, for a hundred kilometers recovered in just 5 minutes theoretically thanks to a fast charging station. The range announced by Porsche for this model is 450 km. For the Taycan Turbo version, the German brand asks for around € 155,000, excluding options.

Just before the coronavirus epidemic raged hard on the American continent, Don Louv therefore made a loop between Canada and the United States at the wheel of his Porsche Taycan Turbo. With an average of 384 km per day, he therefore traveled a little less than 18,000 km in 46 days (17,664), straining his battery and the technology of his new car. He even filmed his entire trip through the windshield of his car, offering a 1.5 hour video on his Youtube account! As a result, the values found on the car’s battery management system showed that the average range per charge over the entire trip was 346 km, knowing that 5,600 km were driven in very low temperatures. When the temperature increases, the range increases in parallel by a few kilometers but without actually exceeding 370 km. Very satisfied with the comfort and performance of his car, however, Don did not encounter any particular problem during the charges on the infrastructures deployed by Electrify America. Assuring that he could “easily drive 8 or 10 hours a day without problem”, he adds, “on the last day, I drove for 17 hours, covering more than 1000 miles. If I had to do it again, I would absolutely do it again! ”
