Unlike the United States, Germany is not considering compensation claims against China for the corona pandemic. This question does not arise, it says in the answer of the Federal Development Ministry to a question from the Left MP Hansel.

Unlike the United States, Germany is not considering compensation claims against China for the corona pandemic. “From the Federal Government’s point of view, the question of any financial compensation claims against China does not arise,” says the Federal Ministry of Development’s response to a question from left-wing MP Heike Hänsel, which was presented to the AFP news agency on Wednesday.

Hansel had asked the question before the recent statements by US President Donald Trump. The latter said on Monday that his government was currently examining how Beijing could be “held accountable” for the spread of the corona virus. Trump did not mention a specific amount of compensation, but simply said that it was a “very substantial” sum. The novel corona virus first appeared in China.

“It is true that the federal government is responding to the US President’s utterly absurd demands for China to pay compensation for the corona pandemic,” said Hansel AFP. Trump is driving an “anti-China campaign” and “trying to distract from his epochal failure in his own country”. Europe should not take part in it.
