Federal Minister of Family Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) wants to give more parents access to emergency daycare for their young children.

Federal Minister of Family Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) wants to give more parents access to emergency daycare for their young children. Especially single parents, parents of preschool children and families in particularly stressed social situations should soon be able to send the children back to the daycare center, she said on Tuesday in the RBB Inforadio. Giffey called for a social debate about opening daycare centers and kindergartens.

The minister had already spoken in favor of a partial opening of the kindergartens until August on Monday. “We have 3.5 million day care children in Germany, and solutions must be found here that will at least partially relieve the parents,” she said. She spoke of small groups and temporary childcare options.

Giffey reiterated her request to also speak about a partial opening of the playgrounds. Parents could take good care of the children there. In addition, the number of children per playground can be limited or “playground carers” can be used to ensure that hygiene rules are observed.

There are also people in the hardware store who pay attention to how many enter the store. “That must also be possible with playgrounds.” It would bring a lot of relief, especially in the big cities and metropolitan areas. ”

Giffey endeavors to open the day-care centers step by step in the 16 federal states. To this end, the working group “Guidelines and recommendations for gradual reopening” started work on Monday.
