Graves desecrated again by killed police officers

The graves of two police officers killed on duty have been desecrated again in Berlin-Britz. The tombstones in the cemetery on Buckower Damm were smeared on Thursday night, plants were torn out, the police said. The State Police Department at the State Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation. A passerby had alarmed the police in the morning.

The graves of the two policemen were devastated and the tombstones were covered with swastikas a year ago in early April 2019.

Commissioner Roland Kruger died in 2003 when he stormed an apartment with other colleagues from his Special Operations Command (SEK). A wanted perpetrator shot him in the head. Uwe Lieschied was shot in March 2006 while pursuing pocket robbers on Hasenheide. Several thousand police officers then used a silent march to remind their colleagues.

Interior Senator Andreas Geisel (SPD) expressed his sympathy to the relatives and friends. He felt deep shame, said the SPD politician. «Shaming graves is hard to beat in villainy.»
