After sharp criticism of the lack of corona testing options in Great Britain, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that he will “massively increase” the number of tests. The Prime Minister announced himself in a video message from Downing Street on Thursday night, where he is quarantined. He had tested positive for the novel corona virus a week ago.
“We will massively expand the tests,” said the prime minister. At the same time, he stated that he had said “for weeks and weeks” that extensive tests were the right way to get through the crisis. “This is how we’ll end up defeating the virus.”
The British government had previously been heavily criticized for the fact that even the roughly half a million employees in the NHS public health service had only tested the novel corona virus in 2000.
In the UK, more than 2,300 people have already died from the Covid-19 lung disease caused by the virus. Unlike other European countries, the government had reacted to the crisis relatively late. Far-reaching exit restrictions now apply across the country.
