Luxembourg wants to test its entire population for the novel corona virus. All 600,000 or so residents should be examined within a month, research minister Claude Meisch said on Tuesday at a video press conference. Around 20,000 corona tests would have to be carried out per day. According to Meisch, the test offensive will cost around 40 million euros.
So far, over 39,000 people have been tested for the novel corona virus in the Grand Duchy. 3729 infections were detected, 88 of the infected died.
According to Meisch, students and lecturers will be tested first because the lessons at the universities will resume next Monday in Luxembourg. They had already been asked in writing to come to one of the 17 test centers in the country.
“Get tested, this is a very important contribution so that you can lead a freer life in the coming weeks and months,” the head of the test program, Ulf Nehrbass, appealed to the population. The approximately 200,000 cross-border commuters who come to work in Luxembourg every day should also be tested for the new type of corona virus.
Health Minister Paulette Lenert assured: “We are the country in Europe that tests the most and by far.” In Luxembourg, everyone has already received five surgical protective masks, and further protective masks went to companies in the Grand Duchy.
