The intervention was “difficult” and “several dozen rescues” were made through the windows, say the firefighters.

Fire has spread

A mother and her 3-year-old daughter died Wednesday in the fire of a building in Montereau-Fault-Yonne in Seine-et-Marne which also left ten people injured. The mother and daughter died on the spot despite the intervention of rescue workers who tried to revive them, explained the firemen. The ten others more lightly injured were “poisoned by smoke,” they added.

The fire started for an undetermined reason around 6.30 p.m. in an apartment on the 1st floor of a seven-story building located in the city of Surville, said the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne and the firefighters. The fire, which was brought under control Wednesday evening, spread “very quickly” to the other floors, detailed the firemen.

A “difficult” intervention with “several dozen rescues”

When they arrived, “there was a lot of smoke in the common areas and the apartments”, and the intervention was “difficult” with “several dozen rescues” which had to be carried out through the windows, added the firemen.

On Wednesday, another fire occurred in the Paris region, in a building in Epinay-sur-Seine in Seine-Saint-Denis. Ten people were injured, including a two-year-old boy who was helicoptered to hospital in “very serious” condition.
