Netflix has just rolled out a series of new tools that parents can use to filter the content their kids see on the platform.

This improved parental control should appeal to young audiences as well as parents, many of whom have already turned to Disney +.

A few more tools

The main feature is filtering by title, Netflix giving the possibility of removing a film from the viewing choices by searching for its title. For example, if a film like Matrix is listed among the exceptions, it will not appear in the films that can be viewed on the account.

The company also added account protection by PIN code and the ability to view account history. Netflix also disables automatic playback of TV shows in children’s profiles, a useful feature for parents who want to limit screen time.

Michelle Parsons, the children’s product manager at Netflix, said in a blog post that ” choice and control have always been important to our members, especially parents. We hope these additional checks will help parents make the right choices for their families.

Netflix values its youngest audience: according to an interview with the New York Times in 2019, 60% of Netflix subscribers watch content specifically designed for families and children. An audience that the launch of Disney + may call into question.
