Following indications of suspected fraud, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has temporarily stopped paying Corona emergency aid for the self-employed and small businesses. The North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Economics announced on Thursday that it had already been charged with fraud on Tuesday following references to fake website.

In coordination with the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), the stop had been ordered on Wednesday evening.

Accordingly, the LKA found that the operators of the fake websites prominently placed in the search results on the Internet fished out data with fake application forms and presumably used them for criminal activities.

The country then instructed the district governments to suspend further payment of the funds. In the coming days, the investigative group will continue to investigate to identify fraudulent applications.

Applicants are asked to be patient

According to the ministry, small businesses and the self-employed can continue to apply for emergency aid. However, only the official website should be used for this – https://soforthilfe-corona.nrw.de.

The ministry wants to inform about the further development promptly. Applicants who are waiting for their transfer have been asked to be patient.
