ASSE loses a piece of its history.
Hospitalized since last Tuesday at the Saint-Etienne North Hospital Robert Herbin died on Monday evening at the age of 81 for heart and lung problems. It was Jacques Vendroux, close to the family, who announced the sad news.
Robert Herbin left this evening at the north hospital of Saint Etienne. His brother and his Sisters wished that I officially announce it to you. We think of his family, his friends and relatives, of the green people. The world of football is in mourning.@ASSEofficiel

After his magnificent career as a defensive midfielder and liberator, only spent in Saint-Etienne, the “Sphinx” had been the coach of the legendary team of Greens (between 1972 and 1983) finalist of the C1 1976, before taking it back in hand at the end of the 80s. It’s simple: Herbin was there for the six Stéphane French Cups, and nine of the ten championships won by the Forez club. Just huge.
Damn square life.
