This Saturday, April 25, is not one more day for Barcelona: six years have passed since the departure of Tito Vilanova, after a tireless and intense fight against cancer.

Vilanova was the first coach of the lower divisions of the Barça entity and, continuously, was on the Barça bench from 2007 to 2013. He knew how to be the great companion of Pep Guardiola, his great ally, in the most successful stage of the institution. And then he took on the challenge of being the most important head of the coaching staff. With him as DT, the Catalan team won the remembered league of 100 points in the 2012-2013 season.

On November 22, 2011 the “damn” information appeared: a tumor in the parotid gland. Tito had to have an emergency operation. On December 19, 2012, the club announced that it was already free of the disease. But, at the end of that year, the relapse came: new operation and new treatment. He was able to return to the bench: it was on April 2, 2013, against PSG, for the Champions League.

Tito Vilanova was 45 years old when he passed away. The last time he coached Barcelona was on June 1, 2013, in the resounding 4-1 victory against Malaga. Currently, the club’s training ground is named after him as a posthumous tribute.
