The Covid-19 pandemic destroyed 509,800 jobs in the second half of March, according to the Active Population Survey (EPA) published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

On average, occupation was reduced by 285,600 people in the first quarter of the year, up to the 19.6 million employed in the biggest decrease since 2013; while the number of unemployed people increased by 121,000 to 3.31 million, which raises the unemployment rate to 14.41%.

The INE also warns that the fall in employment does not include those affected by an ERTE and notes that 562,900 people have been affected by partial unemployment of employment.
