It’s been a long time since Motorola had abandoned the high-end segment; preferring to tighten its focus on more affordable and no less interesting models. Also his return to the front of the stage this evening had to mark the spirits.

And we are ready to bet that the Motorola Edge + that the American manufacturer unveiled this evening will be a milestone in its history. In any case, he is attacking front-line industry leaders – the Xiaomi Mi 10 in mind.

Motorola Edge +: a massive and ultra-efficient smartphone

We have known for a long time that Motorola was preparing its return to the premium segment. Besides, the smartphone has suffered numerous leaks in the past month, already drawing part of its technical sheet.

And what a record. Let it be said: on paper, the Motorola Edge + should not be ashamed of a Xiaomi Mi 10, a Huawei P40 Pro or even a Samsung galaxy s20.

This big guy of 6.7 inches (it would weigh 203 grams) benefits from an OLED panel displaying a Full HD + definition at 90 Hz. The screen is curved at the edges, and has a punch that houses the front photo sensor 25 megapixels (ƒ / 1.7). Chef’s surprise: the Motorola Edge + has a 3.5 mm jack port.

5G compatible (the fastest we’ve ever seen, according to the manufacturer), the Motorola Edge + is powered by a Snapdragon 865 and up to 12 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and 256 GB of storage (UFS 3.0). On the battery side, we will rely on a huge accumulator of 5,000 mAh, rechargeable at 18 W only wired, but at 15 W wireless.

On the back, Motorola has included a three-module photo setup. The main one, a stabilized 108 megapixel sensor (most certainly the Samsung HW1 of 1 / 1.33 “which equips the excellent Galaxy S20 Ultra), comes with an ultra-wide-angle module of 16 megapixels (FOV of 117 °, an 8 megapixel telephoto lens (OIS, 3x optical zoom) and a ToF sensor.

Motorola Edge: a more accessible and equally convincing model

Motorola also failed to keep the surprise on its Motorola Edge before tonight’s announcements. From the youngest of the family, we already knew almost everything.

With a 6.67 inch curved screen, the Motorola Edge also benefits from OLED and 90 Hz refresh. It will nevertheless be more limited in performance with a Snapdragon 765 on board. The smartphone remains 5G compatible.

6 GB of RAM and 128 storage complete the menu. Autonomy will be ensured by a 4,500 mAh battery which, unfortunately, is not rechargeable wirelessly this time.

Finally for budding photographers: the Motorola Edge will swap its 108 MP module for a lighter 64 megapixel (1 / 1.7 “, stabilized). The other two modules – ultra wide-angle, telephoto and ToF – keep the same characteristics as on the Edge + (16 and 8 megapixels).

Prices and availability

The Motorola Edge and Edge + will be available in France during the month of May, without further details for the moment.

They will be displayed respectively from € 599 and € 1,099.

A price that puts them in direct confrontation with a OnePlus 8 and one

iPhone 11 Pro for the most high-end model.
