Over 280 agents and patients had been tested. Twenty-three cases of Covid-19, including 13 among the staff, were identified after more than a week of screenings conducted at the Loudun hospital site (Vienna).

Fourteen new asymptomatic cases – seven among staff, seven among patients, notably from the geriatrics unit – were identified after a second wave of screening on Friday, the results of which were communicated to Loudun hospital on Saturday.

According to Olivier Goyer, CFDT delegate of the hospital, the seven hospital workers were put on sick leave, in isolation at their home. The placement of positive patients was being determined and some could be transferred to the Poitiers University Hospital, in a sector dedicated to Covid-19.

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency could not be reached on Saturday evening to confirm the final results of the screenings. She had previously indicated that austerity measures, isolation of infected patients, sick leave for staff and “contact tracing” would be triggered in the event of new cases.

Screenings at the Loudun site had been initiated after a first case detected last week in a patient arriving from the hospital in Saumur (Maine-et-Loire), where a “cluster had been identified” shortly after his transfer to Loudun , explained the Poitiers University Hospital on Friday.

A first wave of tests was then carried out on around 20 patients in the care unit concerned, and around 60 agents. Two other patients and six staff members tested positive. The patients were transferred to the Covid-19 sector of the Poitiers University Hospital, the officers placed in solitary confinement at their home.

The CFDT delegate expressed on Saturday his “relief to know that everyone has been tested and the arrangements immediately made, especially for staff members” placed on sick leave.

The Poitiers CHU was also to conduct this weekend, at the request of the ARS, a screening campaign on more than 350 residents or professionals of three Vienna nursing homes: in Migné-Auxances, Château-Garnier and Vouneuil-sur Come.
