One to work. Another to rest. eldiario.es has been able to confirm the characteristics of the two luxury apartments in which the President of Madrid is living the confinement, both in a central apart-hotel of the Room Mate group. In addition to the ‘royal suite’ on the eighth floor, the President of Madrid is also using the ‘executive suite terrace’: an apartment that Room Mate promotes on its website as “great luxury” and it is located on the sixth floor of the building. It is another of the most exclusive rooms in the entire hotel.
Between the two apartments and the private terraces they enjoy, they have a total surface of 408 square meters: 204 meters indoors, 204 meters between the three terraces. The average house size in Madrid is 80.76 meters squares, five times less than the space in which the president of the Community is spending confinement.
To calculate the size of these two luxury apartments, eldiario.es has accessed the cadastre records –which include data on each floor and the plot on which the aparthotel is built– and also the plans for both suites, which Room Mate offers on its own website.
With these data, two different experts consulted by this newspaper – an architect and an interior designer – have separately reconstructed the detailed dimensions of both houses and terraces, through the Autocad technical program. The estimate we offer is an average between the calculations of both, who have worked independently but reach very similar results and with slight differences between them.
The first of the two apartments – the ‘royal suite’ on the eighth floor, whose location was revealed by Vanity Fair magazine – in theory is only 88 square meters, according to the Room Mate website. The estimate made by eldiario.es provides a total area three times greater. They are 247 square meters: 141 between the two terraces and 106 inside.
This luxurious apartment, which Ayuso has used for numerous videoconference interviews since March 16, has a spacious living room – with kitchen and dining room -, a huge ‘chill out’ terrace – with sun loungers and outdoor sofas – and a second terrace with another outside dining room.
The “royal suite” is also equipped with a large separate bedroom from the living room and a queen size bed. But during the night, the President of Madrid does not sleep there. He goes down from the eighth to the sixth floor to his second apartment: the ‘executive suite terrace’, another of the hotel’s most exclusive rooms.
This second room that the President of Madrid has at her disposal is also quite large; three times larger than “the 50 square meter flat” in Malasaña where Ayuso lived just a year ago, when I was still a candidate. According to the estimate made by the experts consulted by eldiario.es, it measures 161 square meters and includes a terrace of about 63 meters. It is a luxurious two-bedroom apartment with separate bathrooms, as well as a living room, kitchen and a terrace that surrounds the entire corner of the building, overlooking the Plaza de España.
eldiario.es has contacted Room Mate to obtain their version of why the actual size of these suites is much higher than the one they promote on their website. Do they not add the surface of the terraces, although they do appear in their plans and promotional photos and are only accessible to the clients of these suites? From the hotel company they have declined to respond.
The evidence that this “executive suite terrace” is exactly the second home in which the President of Madrid sleeps is several. In addition to the different sources consulted by eldiario.es, the Madrid president’s own Instagram confirms the location. It is easy to contrast with this photo, that Isabel Díaz Ayuso uploaded to this social network.
The owner of the hotel chain where Isabel Díaz Ayuso resides, Kike Sarasola, has explained in several television interviews the agreement he reached with the President of Madrid. “We have made a package”, Sarasola assures. “It has parking, security, a living room in another apartment to work, cleaning …”. All this, for only 80 euros a day. 2,400 euros per month.
