China did not register any new cases of coronavirus contamination on Saturday, for the first time since the country began publishing data on the epidemic in January. The disease appeared at the end of 2019 in Wuhan (center) but the contagion has been practically stopped in the country, where the latest report indicates nearly 83,000 cases of contamination, including 4,634 fatal.
A first (small) victory
The pandemic has meanwhile spread over the surface of the globe, infecting more than 5 million people, including nearly 330,000 fatally. “We achieved major strategic success in our response to Covid-19“Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Friday at the opening of the plenary session of the National People’s Congress (PNA), the annual high mass of communist power. Before 3,000 deputies with masked faces, Mr. Li stressed, however “the immense task“that remained to be accomplished.
The Trump administration accuses the Chinese authorities of having delayed alerting the world to the epidemic and of concealing its magnitude. Beijing vigorously denied the charges of concealment, claiming that it had always shared its information on the epidemic with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other countries in a timely fashion.
