HEALTH-CORONAVIRUS-FRANCE-RELIGION: Coronavirus: France allows the resumption of religious gatherings
PARIS (Reuters) – France will allow religious gatherings to resume after a two-month hiatus caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, but participants will have to wear masks, the interior minister announced.
The ministry announced late Friday that it would issue a decree detailing new regulations for religious gatherings.
The decree requires religious gatherings to meet certain conditions, including the wearing of masks, a distance of at least one meter between worshipers, and hand washing, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said it expected cults to resume in June, adding that in some cases religious groups could rally as soon as the new rules are released in “the hours to come”.
Muslims, who make up 9% of the population of France, are celebrating Eid al-Fitr this weekend which marks the end of Ramadan.
