At the end of the legislative period it was over for him. Then start a “total contrast program to what I’ve been doing for 50 years,” said the Federal Interior Minister in an interview with “Spiegel”.

Seehofer wants to end political career

Horst Seehofer (CSU) wants to end his political career after this legislative period has ended. After the next federal election, he began a “total contrast program to what I’ve been doing for 50 years,” said the Federal Interior Minister in an interview with the Mirror. “Then I’m an apolitical person. You won’t find me on any board of directors. You won’t be able to lure me into current politics, even if it annoys me so much.”

Seehofer did not want to comment on his disagreement with Angela Merkel on the migration question two years ago. “The virologists have a nice sentence: You don’t look back in a crisis,” he said. But he would “maybe write a lot later” on the subject.

From 1998 to 2008 Seehofer sat for the CSU in the German Bundestag. In the course of his political life, he was Minister of Health (1992 to 1998) and Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (2005 to 2008). He has been Federal Minister of the Interior since 2018. From 2008 to 2018 Seehofer was Bavarian Prime Minister.
