There are many people who cannot tolerate cow’s milk due to lactose intolerance, some who simply do not like the taste and still others who are convinced that they do not use animal products. The results of a large-scale study has also shown that cow’s milk can increase breast cancer risk by up to 80 percent. But there are some plant-based alternatives that taste very good, are ideal for baking and cooking, and are significantly healthier. But which plant milk is the healthiest or “easiest to take off”?
Soy milk is one of the healthiest milk alternatives. Provided you choose a soy milk with no added sugar. It provides the body with important proteins, fiber and antioxidants as well as calcium, iron, zinc and B vitamins.
Almond milk is also one of the healthiest cow’s milk alternatives. It contains even fewer calories than soy milk because it is usually diluted with water. The nutty taste makes almond milk the perfect ingredient in muesli and the unsaturated fatty acid contained in the almond keeps you full for a long time. Again, make sure to only buy almond milk without sugar.
For those who suffer from a nut allergy, oat milk is a tasty option. The disadvantage of oat milk: it naturally contains more sugar and calories. A slightly healthier grain alternative: rice milk, which contains a little less calories and is very similar in taste.
Pistachio milk is less common on supermarket shelves, but it is very easy to make yourself. The pistachio provides important proteins and amino acids and is an excellent source of fiber, B vitamins, copper, potassium and magnesium. In addition, the pistachio is one of the lowest-calorie plant milk types and is therefore suitable for every diet. How to make pistachio milk yourself: Soak a handful of peeled pistachios in cold water overnight. Drain the water, briefly wash the pistachios and puree in a blender with 1 liter of water, the pulp of a vanilla bean and 1 tsp of agave syrup. Press the mixture through a very fine sieve or a clean tea towel and collect the milk in a container. It is best to fill it in a glass bottle and put it in the fridge. The pistachio milk stays there for a few days.
Granted, coconut milk tastes really tasty, but should be enjoyed with caution if you want to lose some weight. Coconut milk is very fatty and high in calories. If you don’t want to miss out on the taste of coconut, choose unsweetened and reduced-fat coconut milk from the milk carton instead of the can in the supermarket.
