François Patriat, president of the LREM group in the Senate, pleads for a “tight government” after the reshuffle which will follow the second round of the municipal elections. But the former PS wanted Edouard Philippe to stay at Matignon.

The majority live at the time of the reshuffle. In the JDD, the leader of the macronist senators, François Patriat, gives his ideas for this change of team expected after the second round of municipal elections, on June 28. Pleads for “a government tightened around the political axes decided by Emmanuel Macron and Edouard Philippe“. Manner of saying that he does not see the current resident of Matignon change places.” The French judge positively the Prime Minister, who has shown that he holds the helm and that he will be able to face the crises of tomorrow ” , supports the former socialist tenor … who also gives part of his casting for future entrants.

What will say Emmanuel Macron to the French on Sunday evening?

He must restore confidence in the future by drawing his priorities. We need a reminder to national unity, which has been lacking. The only concern of the opposition was to set up commissions of inquiry to point to where the government failed … Emmanuel Macron must tell the French that we have faced a crisis, as we had faced wars in the past, and that we are able to overcome it, provided we get back to work very quickly and show unity.

Should the government team change?

I am an unconditional supporter of the government. No minister has deserved. Even those who are said to be weakened: I have not seen a single Minister of the Interior for forty years who has faced as many crises as Christophe Castaner! There may have been language mistakes that put him on the spot, but he did the job. Inevitably, after three years, it is not abnormal that there are changes. There must be a reshuffle after the municipal elections, with a government tightened around the political axes decided by Emmanuel Macron and Édouard Philippe.

According to him, Cazeneuve and NKM have their place in this government

So Edouard Philippe must stay in Matignon?

The Matignon-Élysée couple works well. The French have a positive opinion of the Prime Minister, who has shown that he is in charge and that he will be able to face the crises of tomorrow.

LREM must evolve towards a more classic party structure

Who should join government?

I can see that former ministers are knocking on the door, like Manuel Valls. That’s a pretty good sign: it means they think the government should continue reforming the country! I don’t know if he wants to, but Bernard Cazeneuve would have a place in government. His moderation, his reflection, his sense of the State, his vision can be useful. It will take choices of experience, people who inspire confidence. Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet could also apply.

Should the party and the parliamentary groups evolve?

The party, yes. LREM must evolve towards a more classic party structure, if we want the enthusiasm of the Walkers on the ground to be maintained. After the senatorial elections, our group will have to widen towards the people, on the left and on the right, who expressed in their votes their support for the government. In the Assembly, humility and unity must be found: creating new groups seems dangerous to me.
