Iran issued an arrest warrant for American President Donald Trump and 35 others for the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani and asked Interpol for help. The statement was made by the Tehran prosecutor, Ali Alqasimehr, this Monday (29.Jun.2020), according to the Iranian news agency Fars.
According to Ali Alqasimehr, the warrants were issued on charges of terrorist action and murder.
Qassem Soleimani was leader of the Quds Force of the Army of Guardians of the Islamic Revolution and 1 of the most powerful men in the country. He was killed in 1 US drone attack in Baghdadin Iraq on 3 January.
The bombing and execution of the general was ordered by Trump, who accused Soleimani of orchestrating militia attacks aligned with Iran against American forces in the region.
Alqasimehr stated that Iran asked Interpol to issue 1 “Red warning” to Trump and the other US civilian and military officials who are accused by the Islamic Republic of participating in the attack. Also according to the prosecutor, Iran will continue to investigate the matter after the end of Trump’s presidential term. The US president is running for re-election in early November.
The murder of Soleimani, 62, brought the United States and Iran to the brink of armed conflict. After the attack on Baghdad that killed the Iranian general, Iran promised revenge and made an attack on bases that housed American troops in Iraq.
Besides that, 1 Ukrainian plane with 176 people was shot down shortly after taking off from Tehran airport. Two days later the Revolutionary Guard assumed that he attacked the plane and that it was a mistake.
