The two individuals mimicked the death of George Floyd during a demonstration by the Black Lives Matters movement in New Jersey, according to the American channel NBC.
In New Jersey, in the United States, a prison officer was suspended and an employee of the delivery company FedEx dismissed after the publication of a video in which they laughed at the death of George Floyd, reports the channel NBC this Wednesday.
“All lives matter”
In a video widely shared on social networks, we see a group of white men in a garden in which are displayed flags of the United States, messages of support for Donald Trump and a sign on which is written “All lives matter“(all lives count).
One of them has his knee resting on another man on the ground, head against the asphalt mimicking the death of George Floyd, an African American who lost his life, asphyxiated by a white police officer during an arrest in Minneapolis on May 25. An action that the man carries out while demonstrators of the Black Lives Matter movement parade in front of his property, in the canton of Franklin.
“Racism is right next to you”
“Yesterday’s performance showed me that racism is real, racism is alive, it is right next to you,” said Daryan Fennal, a local organizer of the demonstration, at NBC Philadelphia.
After the video was released, FedEx announced that one of the individuals involved had been identified as one of its employees and that he had therefore been terminated. “We do not tolerate this kind of appalling and offensive behavior,” said the firm. The New Jersey Department of Corrections also suspended the prison supervisor from his duties, pending the completion of an internal investigation.
“Mocking the murder of George Floyd in order to minimize the calls to justice for our black communities is repulsive. I condemn this behavior with the utmost firmness. We will not let the actions of a few distract us from our progress toward dismantling systemic racism, “New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also said on Twitter.
