For the first time, representatives of the German economy could travel to China again. Despite tests in Frankfurt, one of them had the corona virus.
The case of infection with the corona virus on the special flight of the German Economy to China has been confirmed. Also the second test to check the Infection of the passenger on the charter flight to Tianjin was positive, as the managing director of the German Chamber of Commerce in China, Jens Hildebrandt, reported on Monday to the German Press Agency. According to the health commission of the northern Chinese city, it is a 34-year-old engineer from Blaustein in the Alb-Donau district in Baden-Württemberg.
The man had flown to Tianjin on Friday with around 180 managers, technicians and other representatives of German business and relatives working in China, as well as four correspondents from China.
Since China closed the border at the end of March because of the pandemic, they were all stranded in Germany. The Chamber of Commerce had that Return campaign with the Chinese authorities organized to get economic cooperation on both sides going again.
Although all passengers had been tested for the Sars-CoV-2 virus before departure in Frankfurt, a second test after arrival at the 34-year-old showed a positive result, which was confirmed by the third examination.
According to the health commission, the man shows no symptoms and is housed in a quarantine facility in Tianjin for medical observation. All passengers had to go to a hotel in the city in quarantine anyway.
It was Lufthansa’s first passenger flight to China in four months. A second flight of this type is scheduled to take place on Wednesday with a further 200 passengers to Shanghai. The German embassy wanted to clarify with the Foreign Ministry in Beijing in the course of Monday what happened next.
For some fellow travelers who had hoped to be able to travel to their destinations after a short quarantine, the case obviously means that they have to stay in Tianjin for the time being. In any case, the majority of passengers had to go to a hotel in the city for 14 days in quarantine because their destinations had prescribed isolation immediately after arrival.
At the end there is another corona test before you can travel on. According to the organizers, some local authorities can also request further quarantine at the respective destination. In a survey by the Chamber of Commerce, around 2,000 to 2,500 people expressed their interest in returning to China. Around 5,200 German companies operate in China and employ around one million people there.
