Platform for the Llengua Europa ASBL is already the main association supporting Carles Puigdemont in Belgium. While the rest of the Belgian entities created in the heat of the arrival of Puigdemont languish for more or less instrumental purposes, Platform for Llengua Europa It is in full swing and already has more than 1,600 members. Plataforma per la Llengua Europa is promoted by Plataforma per la Llengua, which is defined as a “Catalan NGO”, and is one of the most active and controversial entities in Catalonia, due to the politicization of many of its initiatives, and also the most subsidized. Just one example: Plataforma per la Llengua receives as much public money from the Generalitat as the Liceo, a total of 640,000 euros in 2019 and the same annual item insured until 2021.According to the spokespersons of Plataforma per la Llengua, Plataforma per la Llengua Europa is an association that has nothing to do with Plataforma per la Llengua. They define it as “an entity independent of the Platform for Language created in Brussels in 2018”, and add that “it cannot be considered an activity of the Platform for Language, no matter how much the same people participate”. Those same person are Escuscar Escuder, President of Plataforma per la Llengua and at the same time President of Plataforma per la Llengua Europa, or the administrator of Plataforma per la Llengua Europa, Marga Payola, head of the international team of Plataforma per la Llengua.

Where have the 1,600 members of Plataforma per la Llengua Europa come from? Well, of the 1,654 new partners that Plataforma per la Llengua recognizes that it did in 2019, according to its data published on that year in your activity memory. Platform for La Llengua changed its statutes and established that as of February 2019 all the new members of the entity in Catalonia would in turn be members of the Belgian association.
So these 1,600 new members of Plataforma per la Llengua Europa are also members of Plataforma per la Llengua. Same leaders, same name, identical goals, and now a good part of the Platform per la Llengua partners are also from its Belgian mirror. Too many things in common for the ‘independent entity’ speech to have credibility.
Plataforma per la Llengua has been asked how much of the fees of these 1,600 members – about 70 euros per member on average – It is intended for the Belgian entity. Also due to the annual budget of Plataforma per la Llengua Europa, which in Belgium has not submitted accounts to the registry and works with the usual opacity of Belgian entities promoted by Catalan sovereignty. There has been no response.
Close to Puigdemont
There are very obvious links between Plataforma per la Llengua Europa and Carles Puigdemont. The entity is created in Belgium months after CATGlobal ASBL, the entity that manages Waterloo’s interests, was formed. And Puigdemont has appointed Marga Payola, administrator of Plataforma per la Llengua Europa, one of her direct appointment advisers in the European Parliament. Payola had already acted as a lobbyist for Plataforma per la Llengua before the EU.
By the way, Plataforma per la Llengua continues to act as a ‘lobby’ before the European Commission. And Payola represents the Catalan entity before the Commission, not the Belgian, about which any activity is unknown. The Catalan entity assures in its documentation that its objective is that Catalan is an official language in the EU. The same thing that the Belgian entity ensures on its website.
Despite the huge volume of public subsidies, Plataforma per la Llengua is an unchecked entity. In addition to the 640,000 euros per year of the Generalitat, receives aid from municipalities and county councils. In total, in 2019 it received 852,000 euros in grants. Plataforma per la Llengua has not answered the question of how many of these grants are public and which are private, but public money is the majority.
Plataforma per la Llengua benefits from hundreds of thousands of euros in public subsidies a year regardless of any institutional control
So, Cs has requested in the Commission of the Audit Office of the Parliament that “we consider it necessary that the Audit Office supervise the management of the economic resources received by Plataforma per la Llengua and verify that the current legislation has been complied with”, as stated in the petition, to be voted on within the commission. The Cs deputy Sonia Sierra He adds: “We have asked the Comptes College to protect Plataforma per la Llengua because it receives many subsidies. We have also asked that their condition of cultural entity, since, for example, denouncing merchants who do not label in Catalan cannot and should not be considered a cultural activity ”.
“Plataforma per la Llengua seems like a beach bar and there are sufficient reasons to withdraw the funds, because they do things like targeting small entrepreneurs and self-employed or scouring them or denouncing the Mataró Hospital for delivering a book on the covid-19 in Spanish, for example. At a press conference, they said that they had tricked teachers and school principals into doing the study on whether Catalan children spoke Catalan in the schoolyard. So we ask that public aid be withdrawn. We have also requested that Escuscar Escuder appear in Parliament, but for now the pro-independence groups have prevented him with their vote, ”says Sierra.
