(ANSA) – As of midnight on Tuesday (07), the border between the states of Victoria and New South Wales, the two most populous in Australia, will be closed to try to contain the progress of the new coronavirus (Sars -CoV-2) in the country.
With that, more than 6.6 million people in Victoria will be under lockdown. The announcement of the measures was consensual between the governments of the two locations and was considered a “smart move” to contain Covid-19.
The state of Victoria has been breaking local records for new cases – 127 in the past 24 hours – and the special attention of the governors falls on condominiums of popular housing. In all, 2,663 infections and 22 victims were recorded in Victoria.
The capital Melbourne also registered a high level of contamination after it authorized the relaxation of isolation measures and the city announced the isolation of some neighborhoods to contain the disease.
Australia has recorded, since the beginning of the pandemic, 8,586 cases of the disease and 106 deaths according to data from the Johns Hopkins University Center. (ANSA)
