Los Angeles. Canadian actor Nick Cordero died in Los Angeles at the age of 41 after months of fighting the effects of a corona virus infection. His wife Amanda Kloots had documented her husband’s suffering on the Internet.
Cordero died on Sunday surrounded by his family, as his wife Amanda Kloots wrote on Instagram. “I’m stunned and everything hurts. My heart is broken, I can’t imagine our life without him.” The couple has a one-year-old son.
Kloots had documented her husband’s more than three-month fight against the corona virus on the Internet. The doctors had had to amputate Cordero’s right leg after three weeks in the intensive care unit. The reason was a blood clot, a complication of coronavirus infections. The actor was comatose in the meantime, but regained consciousness in early May.
According to his wife, he lost almost 30 kilograms because his muscles contracted and was unable to speak or walk in mid-June. Finally, he was waiting for a lung transplant. His Corona suffering caused worldwide sympathy. Celebrities such as Zack Braff (“Scrubs”, “Garden State”), Viola Davis (“Fences”) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”) expressed their condolences in emotional tweets.
The Canadian-born Cordero played among others in “Rock of Ages” and “Waitress”, for his role in “Bullets over Broadway” he was nominated in 2014 for the Tony Theater Prize. A family fundraiser that has been running since April reached nearly $ 800,000 by Monday morning (local time).
