London. Johnny Depp’s lawyers showed on Friday, in his defamation suit against a tabloid, a video of an anonymous informant trying to prove that his ex-wife Amber Heard was violent.
Depp sued the British tabloid The Sun before the London High Court for having branded him in 2018 as a violent husband, in a trial that began three weeks ago.
The 57-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor claims that accusation ruined his reputation and cost him lucrative jobs in Hollywood.
The Sun says it can back up its claims with 14 cases of abuse against the 34-year-old model and actress that would have occurred within three years of Heard’s decision to file for divorce, in 2016.
Depp’s attorney, David Sherborne, interrupted the expected testimony on Friday and asked Judge Andrew Nicol for permission to show what he called new “critical” evidence in the case.
Nicol accepted even though the case was delayed on what was supposed to be his last day.
The undated video shows Amber’s sister Whitney chatting with a group of women in a pool.
“I can’t believe Amber beat you up,” one of the women tells Whitney in the video. “Did you get into a fight?” He asks. A woman inspects Whitney’s cheek and arm. “I’m not talking about it,” says Whitney. “She really beat you up,” the woman insists. “Oh, we’re not talking about it,” Whitney repeats.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met in 2011, during the filming of “Rhum Express” and they divorced in early 2017. They were less than two years married.
