Eight new deaths from coronavirus confirmed and 1,818 fatalities in Argentina

The national Ministry of Health confirmed this Sunday another eight deaths from coronavirus with respect to the latest report, bringing the number of fatalities in the country to 1,818.

Alejandro Costa, Undersecretary of Health Strategies, was in charge of informing the updated figures of the pandemic in the country. He indicated that the case fatality rate is 1.9%, which is 39.9 deaths per million inhabitants and that the average age of the fatal victims is 75 years.

As reported by the official, 97,509 people contracted the disease, of which 1.1% was due to a history of travel, 33.4% due to close contact with one case, and 48% was due to community transmission, mainly in the metropolitan area of ​​Buenos Aires, Chaco, Neuquén and Río Black.

Total, 701 people are admitted to intensive care. Thus, the percentage of bed occupancy is 51.2% nationwide and 58.2% in the metropolitan area, the most affected area in the country.

The official added that 42,694 people have already been discharged (1,286 on Saturday), which represents 44% of the total infected.

On the other hand, Costa highlighted the increase in tests carried out throughout the country, with 416,308 in total and 10,266 on Saturday. With these figures, the country reached 10,276 tests for every million inhabitants.
