Chancellor Angela Merkel believes the failure of the EU special summit for the planned multi-billion dollar reconstruction package in the corona crisis is possible. “I still cannot say whether there will be a solution,” said Merkel on Sunday morning in Brussels when she arrived for the third day of the summit deliberations. She added: “There is a lot of goodwill. But there are also many positions. And so I will work for it. But it may also be that there is no result today. ”

The third day of the summit was certainly the decisive day of negotiations, Merkel emphasized. She added: “The various issues – the size of the fund, the type of management and also the rule of law issues are now well dealt with.” EU Council leader Charles Michel had extended the special summit by one day to come up with a new compromise proposal overnight.
