Berlin. According to a study in Germany, every fifth Corona patient admitted to hospital has died. According to this, the mortality rate for Covid-19 patients who were admitted to German hospitals from late February to mid-April 2020 was 22 percent.
The German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine announced in Berlin on Wednesday. The mortality rate among patients requiring ventilation was 53 percent.
Of Covid 19 patients in clinics who did not need ventilation, 16 percent had died. A total of 17 percent of the patients in the clinics were ventilated.
The mortality rate of men was 25 percent, six percentage points higher than that of women (19 percent), it was said. Regardless of gender, the mortality rate in older patients was very high: 27 percent died in the age group of 70 to 79 year olds, 38 percent in the group of people aged 80 and over.
According to the information, the data from around 10,000 patients with confirmed Covid-19 diagnosis were evaluated, which were recorded from February 26 to April 19, 2020 in a total of 920 German hospitals. The study delivered nationwide and representative results for the first time.
It is a joint study by the Scientific Institute of the AOK (WIdO), the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) and the Technical University of Berlin, which was published in the medical journal “The Lancet Respiratory Medicine”.
