BVB newcomer Thomas Meunier has sharply criticized ex-club Paris Saint-Germain.

Reason: The Parisians, despite Borussia Dortmund’s willingness, refused to allow Meunier to participate in the Champions League tournament. The 28-year-old Belgian PSG sports director Leonardo made sure that it happened.

“Leonardo never made an agreement with BVB, let alone with me! He wanted me to appear for PSG practically free of charge,” said Meunier in an interview with the German press agency (dpa) with reference to a failure to agree on a rental fee or underwriting aspects.

Instead of appearing again in the Champions League with the French, he was denied entry to the club site by lawyer’s letter, Meunier reported. His attempt to train on the premises again after a four-month break was also refused.

“Then I was told by phone that I shouldn’t cross the path of whoever because I could tell disturbing stories. Typical case of loss of reality,” said Meunier.

Meunier defends himself: “That’s not true”

He added: “Leonardo told the press in France that I had refused to extend the contract. But that’s not true, I want to make it very clear.”

Meunier moved from Paris to Dortmund on a free transfer after having previously eliminated the black and yellow team in the round of 16 of the Champions League with the French. In the quarter-finals PSG will now face Atalanta Bergamo without Meunier.
