In documents filed this week with the London High Court, lawyers for Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s wife, believe that the media coverage the Duchess of Sussex received during her pregnancy had damaged her mental health.
Meghan Markle “did not feel protected” by the royal “institution” which did not defend it against articles published in the press which put it “out of it”, relates the Daily Mail. And to develop: “But the reason why the press officers of the palace did not move is because these articles were true,” according to sources quoted by the British tabloid.
A source confirms to the Times newspaper that Meghan is referring to the team of press attachés and staff at the Palace office.
These officials often refuse to comment to reporters when an official response confirms a story or harms the member of the royal family involved.
The Times reports that an article which particularly angered the duchess concerned the resignation of her personal assistant Melissa Toubati, who resigned in 2018 according to rumors that she had burst into tears, overwhelmed by the demands and rudeness of Meghan Markle towards him.
The press team at Kensington Palace had a hard time denying the stories because they were true, the Times said.
“But this story was a drop in the ocean compared to what was really going on,” added another source.
Legal documents filed by Meghan Markle’s defense against the British press state that the Duchess was “the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles”, which caused “enormous emotional distress and damage mental health. ”
