Eloge Yao has already “scored” three of the five goals conceded since the recovery by his team of FC Lugano.

Ivorian defender FC Lugano Eloge Yao (24) has passed for the big fish since the post-Covid resumption of the Swiss Super League championship. If his team has conceded only five goals in as many games, three of them are autogoals to be credited to Yao.

On June 21, for the first game after the pandemic break, he allowed Servette to save a point at home (1-1) by beating his own goalkeeper in the 61st minute of the match.

Sunday at Wankdorf, Yao made even stronger, since he diverted in his own nets centers of Lotomba (32nd) and Gaudino (59th), scoring the first two goals of Young Boys (who finally won 3 -0).

Yao was doubly unlucky on his second autobut of the day: the latter should never have been awarded, since, as the photo below shows, the ball was not in the triangle of the corner post at the time where Gaudino kicked his corner kick. But neither the referee Fedayi San, nor the delegate to the VAR, intervened. And Yao beat goalkeeper Baumann for the second time today …

The ball was not in the triangle when Gaudino kicked the corner kick leading up to 2-0.

Yao is only the third player to double his own side in the Swiss LNA / Super League. We have to go back to 1985 to find traces of such a mishap. 35 years ago, FC Zurich defender Heinz Lüdi beat his own goalkeeper twice against Wettingen (final score 3-3).
